Dry Needling

At Fysio & Sport, we use a technique called dry-needling to help alleviate pain and muscle tension. This method involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to release tight muscles and improve circulation. Our skilled therapists use this technique to help patients with chronic pain, headaches, and other conditions.

What are trigger points?

A trigger point is also called a muscle knot and is a hardening in the muscle. The muscles then usually do not relax anymore. They usually produce localized pain and you can feel them when you rub them. It can also cause movement restrictions, stiffness, loss of strength and pain. A muscle is made up of individual muscle fibers. Normal resting position for a muscle fiber is neither stretched nor contracted. When there is a trigger point in the muscle, the resting muscle fiber is more contracted at specific points than the surrounding areas.

The needle is very thin, only 0.3 mm thick and you fortunately usually don't feel it. In the muscle knot, the needle is pricked and gently moved back and forth. This stimulates the muscle which can give a kind of cramping feeling. After this, the needle goes out and most people immediately feel a stiffness in the muscle. After a few hours it will feel more relaxed and usually there is a decrease in pain.
